Permissions for Folders

Permissions determine what actions a folder owner or sharing user can perform for the folder and its content (files and subfolders). There are seven permissions levels, including the owner level.

The owner of a folder automatically has all permissions for the folder. The owner is the user who created the folder or who was assigned ownership by the last owner.

Permissions are first assigned to a sharing a user or group when they are invited to share a folder. Permissions can be changed at any time by the folder owner or by a user with Share permissions for the folder.

If a folder is shared with you individually and with one of your groups, you have the permissions assigned to you individually. This is the case even if the group has a higher permissions level.

Note: You can check your permissions for a folder from the Properties - Permissions window. You can see the permissions of other sharing users if you have one of the following permissions: View and Audit, Edit and Audit, or Share.
