WWPass was founded in 2008. The company is privately funded and headquartered in Nashua, New Hampshire, with an additional office in Switzerland.

The founding team's background is in cryptography and distributed systems. That background shaped an early decision that has stayed in place since: authentication and data protection should be designed at the architecture level, not added afterward as a policy or a configuration setting.
